Portfolio Assignments

FINAL FOR TWO DEMENIONAL DESIGN CLASS:

You are to turn in for the last class a portfolio of assignments in a paper portfolio folder the following assignments:

Four lines inside of four boxes.

Four Squares with four shapes inside of each square made of circles, triangles and squares.

Four squares design using different shapes to express the following feelings:

Bold, Order, Tension, and so forth.

One grid design of repeating shapes to make an interesting design.

Collage Assignment using at least seven images.

Texture Project.

Two compositions using the same design – one in color and the other in black and white.

Colored Value Scale

Value Scale made of newsprint.

Page Layout design using black construction paper to mirror page layout.

I will collect and grade your portfolio and return it to you during finals.

Then, your final is to select one or two projects that you believe are successful and present them to the class and talk about why you feel they are good and what you learned from the exercise.

Deconstuct Page Layout

Select a page layout design from a magazine, and create another design using only black construction paper shapes to mirror the same design.

Assignment two:

Create a colored value scale like the one on page 260 of your text. If you have the 8th version of the text. the example is on page 262.

Two Compositions: One with black shapes and one with Colored ones.

Painting is an example of a composition using simple shapes and was done by the artist Kandinsky.

NEST ASSIGNMENT:

Design two compositions using simple shapes.

The first design should be with only black shapes.

The second composition should be using the exact shapes but this time using different colors for each shape.

Chapters to Ouline for the rest of the class.

We do not have enough time to outline all of the chapters in the book. So, I have come up with a list of those chapters I feel are the most important for you to cover.

They are Chapters 5, 6, 7, 9 and 12. Although color is an important chapter. that material will be covered in Color and Design that is offered at DeAnza too, so I am not requiring that you cover that material.

I hope this helps you to plan your time in completing the outlines.

There are normally two different types of texture that artists use concerned with. They are: Actual and Implies textures.

Your next assignment is to create another collage – this time, I would like for you use different textures to create your design.

Before you begin, please read the two pages on texture starting on page 180.

Collage Assignment

Silkscreen Collage by Robert Rauschenberg.

You are to select a minimum of seven images and make a collage. Your artwork should be at least 11"' tall and 81/2" wide. Select your images form magazines and use glue stick to paste them on your new art board. This project will be due on Wednesday of this week.

Progressive Grid Assignment

On the Ground of your new document lay out a progressive grid with your pencil. Then create a progressive design both vertically and horizontally. This time, I would like the grid structures to be filled with only black paint.

The end result should be a design similar to art op paintings.

This project is do next Tuesday.
